Bangladesh, US discuss ways to make Ticfa an effective platform
Dhaka: Bangladesh and the United States have laid emphasis on making the platform of Trade and Investment Cooperation Forum Agreement (Ticfa) more effective.
Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque met Assistant United States Trade Representative (A/USTR) for South and Central Asian Affairs Mark Linscott on Wednesday, the 2nd day of his two-day visit to Washington, discussed the issues.
He placed the issue of granting duty-free quota-free access to Bangladeshi products to the US market which has long been remained unmet.
During the meeting held in the Office of the USTR, they discussed possible ways to make the Ticfa more effective, said a press release on Thursday.
Shahidul referred to the removal of special paragraph on Bangladesh by ILO in the recently held meeting of its Committee of Experts for Application of Standards (CAS) in Geneva in recognition and appreciation of the significant progress made by Bangladesh.
He expressed the hope that the US will also appreciate the same and extend duty-free and quota-free access to Bangladeshi products to the US market.
The Foreign Secretary had also a courtesy meeting with Vice Chair of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) Kristina Arriaga de Bucholz.
