Hearing on Khaleda Zia’s graft case deferred until 13 July
Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Thursday asked seven banks to submit statements and ledger books of the Zia Charitable Trust’s accounts to it in a graft case filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Passing the order following a petition filed by Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Sanaullah Mia, Judge Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman of the Special Judge Court 5 fixed 13 July for the next hearing in the Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust graft cases.
During the proceedings, the BNP chief’s counsels partially cross-examined plaintiff of the cases Harunur Rashid, deputy director of the Anti-Corruption Commission.
Mosharraf Hossain Kajal represented the ACC during the hearing.
On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed the Zia Charitable Trust case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of abusing power in raising funds and its management.
On July 3, 2008, the ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with Ramna Police Station against Khaleda, her son Tarique Rahman and four others on charge of embezzling over Tk 2.10 crore.
