A Rajshahi University student has died after coming into contact with a live electric wire while vacationing at Natore’s Halti Beel.
The incident also left two others injured as they were travelling by a boat in Halti Beel in Natore on Tuesday.
The deceased, Jahid Hasan, was a 3rd year student of geography and environment science department. He was from Santhia of Pabna.
The injured—Jahid’s friends Boishakhi Khatun and Alif Jahan Ripon—were admitted to Natore Sadar Hospital.
RU proctor Prof Tarikul Hasan said the duo were referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) as their condition deteriorated.
Md Shahinur, who was also traveling with the victims said, ‘We, a group of fifteen friends, went at Halti Beel on a tour today. We were travelling by a boat at about 2:00pm.’
‘While we were enjoying our tour on the roof of the boat, the three came into contact with a live electric wire which came down in that place which we didn’t notice.’
He added that Jahid later fell into the water while Boishakhi and Ripon collapsed on the boat.
The trio were rushed to the hospital, where on-duty doctors declared Jahid dead.
