Scores missing as trawler sinks in Bay, 31 rescued
Cox’s Bazar: A trawler capsized with more than one hundred passengers on board in the Bay of Bengal near Kutubdia of Cox's Bazar on early Thursday.
The incident took place at Khudiratek area of Kutubdia channel at about 5:00am.
Kutubdia Police officer-in-charge Angsai Thoi said 31 people have been rescued so far by the joint effort of Coast Guard, police and locals, and it is assumed that more than a hundred people were on board.
The rescued passenger told the Coast Guard that the trawler, FB Idris, set off from Chittagong port on Wednesday noon. Later, on their way to Malaysia illegally, more than a hundred people got on board from different areas.
Kutubdia Coast Guard contingent commander Mohammad Tareq said the rescue operations are underway.
A rescue ship of Coast Guard ‘Tanvir’ was headed towards the spot, informed a Coast Guard source.
