NBR launches authorized economic operators programme
Dhaka: As a part of ongoing modernization steps of the NBR, with the support of USAID- Bangladesh Trade Facilitation Activity II Project, a certificate awarding ceremony on Authorized Economic Operators (AEO) programme was held on Sunday (5th May, 2019) at 6 pm, at Crystal Ballroom, Hotel InterContinental Dhaka.
The programme was designed for two hours starting at 6 pm and ending at 8 pm, said a press release.
Md. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, ndc, Senior Secretary, Internal Resources Division (IRD) and Chairman, National Board of Revenue (NBR) attended the occasion as chief guest while Md. Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin), President, The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FBCCI), and Md. Nasir Uddin, Team Leader, USAID-BTFA II as special guests. Peter Gauthier, Private Enterprise Officer, USAID Bangladesh was the guest of honor. Khondaker Muhammad Aminur Rahman, Member (Customs: Audit, Modernization & International Trade), NBR chaired the occasion.
The International Customs Community has developed measures to secure and facilitate global trade. These measures have been transformed into international standards for global implementation. The majority of WCO Members are implementing these standards through the development of AEO programs.
AEO is an internationally recognized accreditation that indicates a company’s role in the supply chain is secure and reliable, and that any Customs controls and procedures are efficient and compliant. The NBR with the assistance of USAID-BTFA ll has implemented AEO in Bangladesh Customs by piloting three Pharmaceutical Companies namely Beximco, Square and Incepta on completion of the conditions prescribed in the relevant SRO.
It is expected that the event will be participated by a significant number of representatives both from public and private sectors. The representative will include high officials of Customs and other Government Departments; leaders from different Chambers, Associations; such as- WEAB, WEA, C & F, Shipping, Courier, Freight Forwarders Associations etc.
