Dhaka: New Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, who took up a part-time teaching position at Jahangirnagar University (JU) last September, will continue taking classes at the university alongside his duties as lawmaker, reports the UNB.
His first class as minister is scheduled for Thursday.
Last year, the students sought him as a regular teacher after he took a class following request of the university authorities. Later, he was appointed as a part-time teacher by the Environmental Science Department.
Before that, the minister was teacher at East West University and North South University. He completed post-graduation in Chemistry from Chittagong University.
He also completed a Master’s in Human Ecology from Vrije University Brussels (VUB) and one on International Politics from the University libre de Bruxelles (ULB). He also has a PhD in Chemistry from Limburg University, also in Belgium.
After his student life he was selected as visiting fellow and Academic member of European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS).
Dr Hasan Mahmud is known as an environmentalist, and in fact served as the environment and forest minister during the first of the AL-led government’s three consecutive terms.
He had been the Awami League’s Environment Affairs secretary for more than a decade, before moving on to helm the party’s Publications and Publicity arm.
