High-speed internet to remote places by this year: Jabbar
Dhaka: Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar on Wednesday said that the government will provide high-speed internet in all remote places of the country by this year.
‘Through satellite connectivity, high-speed internet will be provided to 226 remote unions where cable connections can't be reached,’ the telecomm minister told UNB.
Jabbar said there are nearly 772 unions in the country including 111 enclaves where there is no internet connectivity at present and four projects have been initiated in this regard.
‘So far high-speed internet was provided to 1200 unions by the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited while 2600 unions were connected under the Info-Sarker project,’ the minister said while talking to this correspondent.
The minister also said a team including him and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Chairman Shahjahan Mahmood will visit the remote islands of Sandwip soon.
