Rachel Riley fans were sent into a frenzy yesterday when the Countdown beauty shared a picture of herself next to a board which bore a promise she would present the Channel 4 show naked if England bring home the World Cup 2018 trophy.
The 32-year-old Channel 4 favourite shot to pin-up superstardom when she took over from Rear of the Year winner Carol Vorderman on the show 10 years ago.
Unsurprisingly, her 568,000 Twitter followers went wild when a snap showing the blonde bombshell posing next to a placard which said: ‘If England win World Cup, I’ll do Countdown naked,’ emerged online, reports the Express.co.uk.
Their dreams were dashed, however, when Rachel Riley posted the hilarious shot on her own page, saying: ‘This is doing the rounds.
‘Of course it’s photoshopped,’ she explained, joking: ‘It was actually @Nick_Hewer who said this!’
A keen football fan, she also added the hashtag: ‘#ComeOnEngland.’
Twitter users were quick to share their cheeky opinions on the post, with one commenting: ‘OK, let’s compromise… England win, and you’ll do the show in an England bikini?’
‘One from the bottom and two from the top please,’ another flirtatious fan quipped, while a third said: ‘Can’t back out now Rachel.’
‘Maybe have more viewers than the England - Tunisia game,’ a fourth said.
Rachel also replied to historian and TV consultant Greg Jenner, who commented: ‘Nick’s behind a desk. For all we know, he does every show naked from the waist down!’
‘Mathematician’s logic combined with historian’s scepticism,’ she said. ‘I can confirm he doesn’t.
‘Not since the ‘incident’ anyway,’ she added.
The edited picture which sparked such a frenzy on Twitter saw Countdown maths whizz Rachel showcasing her slender curves in a short red dress.
The sleeveless number skimmed her upper thighs, allowing her to flash her slim pins as she placed one hand on her hip and smiled for the camera.
Her famous golden tresses were pulled back in an elegant up ‘do in the picture which she originally took as part of a campaign for bookies Ladbrokes.
Rachel is a lifelong Manchester United fan and previously appeared on Sky Sports’ Friday Night Football from 2016 until last year.
Earlier this week, England kicked off their campaign at the World Cup 2018 finals with a 2-1 victory over Tunisia.
The squad, led by Harry Kane, got an early lead, thanks to their captain, but Tunisia equalised before half time.
As a close-run second half drew to a close, however, England’s star striker found the back of the net once again, with the whistle blowing on 2-1 to England.
The Three Lions face Panama in their next fixture on Sunday and will go head-to-head with Belgium on June 28.
Having got off to a positive start, fans across the country will be hoping they can keep up their winning streak and secure a place in knockouts.
