Bangladesh shooters win gold in Islamic Games
Dhaka: Bangladeshi shooters Abdulla Hel Baki and Syeda Atkia Hassan Disha won gold medals in mixed team event of the 10-meter Air Rifles shooting in the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games at the Baku Shooting Centre on Sunday.
The pair clinched first gold medal for Bangladesh on the 2nd day of the games in a new event, mixed team, beating their Iranian rival by 5-1 points in the final. A Turkish pair won the event's bronze medal.
Earlier on Saturday, shooter Rabbi Hasan Munna clinched the first silver medal for Bangladesh in the men's 10 metre air rifles scoring 245.5 points on the very first day at the Baku Shooting Centre.
Omer Akgun of Turkey, who finished 2nd in the 2016 World Cup, won the event's gold medal scoring an impressive 249.8 points to dominate the tightly contested final.
Sadkhan Sayfuddinov of Uzbekistan took the event's bronze scoring 224.1 points.
Commonwealth Games silver medalist shooter Abadulla Hel Baki made a frustrating result being placed 5th in his favourite event.
President of Bangladesh Olympic Association General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq and Secretary General Syed Shahed Reza congratulated the Bangladeshi gold winning shooters for their feat in the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games.
