Famous Indonesian Quran reciter dies live on-air
The video of a popular Indonesian Quran reciter has gone viral since Wednesday after he died during a live recitation at an official event.
While reciting verses from Surah Al Mulk at an official ceremony, Sheikh Ja’far Abdulrahman collapsed midway during the recitation in modst of live broadcast. Indonesia’s Minister of Social Affairs Khofifah Indar Parawansa was attending the event, reports khaleejtimes.com.
According to reports, the country’s famous reciter suffered a fatal cardiac arrest and was taken away by medics on a stretcher.
Social media has been flooded with comments praising Abdulrahman for the honour of dying while reciting the Holy Quran.
‘What an honorable way to die', commented a netizen.
Indonesia has the world’s largest Muslim population. Islam was first adopted by Indonesians in northern Sumatra in the 13th century through the influence of Muslim traders and Sufi scholars. It became the country’s dominant religion by the 16th century.
