Children pavilion most crowded at Book Fair
Dhaka: The pavilion in the Ekushey Book Fair designated for publishers bringing children’s books has turned out to be one of the busiest parts of the fair this year.
The stalls for children’s books are placed in a single slot, bunches no 12 to 15, at Suhrawardy Udyan.
The publishers there are showcasing various types of books, including illustrated ones, poetry, short stories, encyclopedia of word for children, magic books, fairytales, comics and DVD of educational cartoons.
Mahbubur Rahman of ‘Tonatuni Publication’ told UND that they have been publishing books and DVDs of educational cartoons for children since
1983 and their products provide the children with knowledge as well as moral lessons.
Adri Pal, a student of class IV of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, visited the Ekushey Fair with her father. ‘I am very happy to come to the fair and I want to buy a lot of books, especially fairytales, because I like to read those.’
Director General of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan said, ‘The new generation is highly attracted to technology and they always love to use technical instruments. So it’s our big challenge to encourage them to read books. That’s why I requested the publishers to bring forth books which will be highly attractive for children besides being educational.’
Some 84 books were published on the 16th day of the Ekushey Book Fair on Tuesday.
So far, 1,789 new books have been published in the fair.
