RAB declares Atia Mahal explosive-free
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday declared the militant den Atia Mahal at Shibbari in Sylhet city free of explosives.
‘RAB-9’s dog squad and bomb disposal unit defused the remaining explosives inside the Atia Mahal and handed over the building to Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) today (Monday) afternoon,’ said commanding officer of RAB-9 Lt. Col. Abu Haider Azad at a press conference held at a house adjacent to Atia Mahal on Monday evening, reports UNB.
SMP Deputy Commissioner Basudeb Banik and its additional deputy commissioner (Media) Zedan Al Musa were also present at the press conference.
The Army-led operation, ‘Operation Twilight’, began on March 25 although police launched the raid on the militant den early hours of March 24 last.
Army Para Commandos found the bodies of four militants, including that of a female one, at militant den Atia Mahal on March 27 and declared the operation ended.
Later, RAB’s dog squad and bomb disposal unit conducted the operation to clear Atia Mahal, detecting the existing explosives in the building and defusing those.
