SUTA protests terrorist attack
Sylhet: Teachers, students and employees of the Shahjalal University of Science and technology on Thursday protested the recent terrorist attacks at Gulshan and Sholakia.
Under the banner of Shahjalal University Teachers Association (SUTA) the protesters raise their voice against terrorism and militancy. On the occasion, a procession paraded the campus at about 12 noon, where more than 500 participants joined the protest.
Addressing the gathering, Professor Zafar Iqbal said, ‘I believe, the attackers will not be able to do anything except reducing the goodwill of our country. Don’t be depressed. It is our duty to uproot the main culprits; and finally Bangladesh will be happy.’
He urged the students and teachers to come forward to extreminate terrorism from the country and asked the students to inform the authorities concerned if any one finds any information regarding the terrorism groups.
He said extremists had no religion but they were using religion as their weapon to misguide and recruit the youngsters, especially the university-level students.
The protesters also demanded exemplary punishment of the extremists and attackers and also asked the university authorities to form an anti-militancy cell.
SUTA general secretary Mohibul Alam moderated the rally, while president of the organisation Syed Shamsul Alam spoke as the chair.
Among others, Akhtarul Islam, Md Younus, Sajidul Karim, Rashed Talukder, Anowarul Islam, Taj Uddin, Mastabur rahman and Faruque Uddin addressed the rally.
