Mushfiq's Barisal snatch emphatic victory over Tamim's Chittagong

Dhaka: Left-handed opening batsman Dawid Malan's unbeaten 78 runs guided Barisal Bulls to their 3rd successive victory in the 4th Bangladesh Premier League as they beat Chittagong Vikings by seven wickets in their 4th encounter at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.

Chasing a target of 164, Bulls reached their destination scoring 167 for 3 in 19.4 overs spurred by the tournament highest partnership of 150 in 17 overs between Dawid Malan and Shahrier Nafees in the 2nd wicket.

Bulls skipper Mushfiqur Rahim fired a boundary in the last ball off Subashis Roy bowing to draw the winning line.

The previous highest partnership was 116 in 13.1 overs that was built up by Vikings skipper Tamim Iqbal and Jahurul Islam in the opening stand in the first innings of the match on their way to 163/3 in 20 overs.

The day's man of the match, Malan, fired three boundaries and seven over-boundaries off 48 balls for his unbeaten figure while Nafees scored 65 off 59 balls that witnessed seven boundaries and one six. Mushfiqur added unbeaten 10 runs.

Nafees who started from 7/1 in 1.5 overs was bowled out by Imran Khan at 157/2 in 18.5 overs.

Imran Khan bagged two wickets for 30 runs in four overs for Vikings. On the way to one-wicket for 24 in 3.4 overs, Vikings pace bowler Subashis Roy made the first breakthrough bowling out Josh Cobb.

Sent in to bat first, Vikings opening pair between skipper Tamim and Jahurul Islam played an entertaining innings of 116 in 13.1 overs to boost their team collection.

Country's dashing opener Tamim knocked 75 off 51 balls, including 10 boundaries and two sixes, before being bowled out by Kamrul Islam Rabbi to break the opening stand.

Jahurul stayed for 36 off 34 balls with four fours and was caught by Thisara Perera at 122/2 in 14.5 overs. 

Anamul Haque fired two boundaries and one six for unbeaten 27 off 19 balls while Dwayne Smith was out for run-a-ball 17, involving one boundary and one six, in the last ball of the innings.

Delivering four overs each, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Abu Hider Rony and Al-Amin Hossain took one wicket apiece for 21, 31 and 35 runs respectively.

With the day's result, Bulls collected six points from four encounters starting their tournament campaign with an eight-wicket loss against Dhaka Dynamites, followed by six-wicket and four-run wins over Comilla Victorians and Rajshahi Kings respectively.

Vikings remained in their previous collection of two points from four matches, starting with the 29-run win against Comilla Victorians in the tournament opener, followed by successive defeats against Rangpur Riders and Khulna Titans by nine wickets and four runs respectively. 

Meanwhile, defending champions Comilla Victorians are taking on Dhaka Dynamites in the day's next match to wrap-up the Dhaka phase of the league involving 13th matches. 

The seven-team franchised tournament then will move to Chittagong for the next 11 matches scheduled to be held at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium starting on Thursday (November 17).

On completion of the Chittagong phase, all franchised teams will return to Dhaka for the remaining matches including final.
