Inflation eases to 6.05 percent in November

Dhaka: The general inflation rate eased further to 6.05 percent in November, down from 6.19 percent in October, as both food and non-food inflation rates witnessing a downtrend.

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said this while releasing the monthly consumer price index at a ‘Meet-the-Press’ programme held at the NEC conference room on Wednesday.

The minister said the inflation trend was the lowest in November in the current fiscal year as the prices of winter vegetables and pulse witnessed a downtrend duty to adequate supply.

He said if the supply chain remains stable and if there is no abnormality, the trend of inflation will remain stable and within the target during the remaining period of the current fiscal year.

Mustafa Kamal also said the inflation rate in July was 6.36 percent, followed by 6.17 percent in August and 6.24 percent in September.

The average year-on-year rate of inflation from December 2014 to November 2015 stood at 6.20 percent, which was 7.09 percent from December 2013 to November 2014.

Besides, the food inflation at the national level stood at 5.72 percent in November, slightly down from 5.89 percent in October while the non-food inflation also decreased to 6.56 percent in November, which was 6.67 percent in October.

Meanwhile, the general inflation rate at the urban level was 6.88 percent during the last month against 6.91 percent in October, while it was 5.61 percent in November against 5.82 percent in October in rural areas.

In urban areas, the food inflation came down to 7.42 percent in November, down from 7.44 percent in October. The non-food inflation rate also decreased to 6.29 percent in November against 6.33 percent in October.

In rural areas, the food inflation also declined to 5.00 percent in this November, down from 5.23 percent compared to the previous month, while the non-food inflation was 6.76 percent in November against 6.90 percent in October.

Besides, the national wage index rate witnessed a 7.09 percent growth in November with 132.37 index, which was 7.11 percent in October.
