GDP increases, not taxpayers: NBR chief
Chittagong: National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiya on Saturday said the number of tax payers has not increased though the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has increased in recent time.
‘If the tax rate is relaxed, the number of tax payers will not get down,’ he said at a view exchange meeting with leaders of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCCI) and Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, reports the UNB.
NBR chairman said that provision will be there in the next budget to encourage private sector investment as it pushes country’s employment up.
Quoting the finance minister’s interest in reducing bank’s interest rate, Mosharraf Hossain said some banks have already started reducing the interest rate in a bid to help private sector’s investment to grow up faster.
REHAB President Qayyum Chowdhury, BGMEA first vice-chairman Mainuddin Ahmed Mintu, BAFA Dirctor Anjan Shekhor Das, among others, were present.
