Yunus inspires Indian businesses

Dhaka: Top Indian business houses met Muhammad Yunus on Monday at Mumbai, India at a daylong conference to discuss expansion of social business in the country to tackle pressing social problems, reports UNB.

Some of the leading corporations, including Tata Companies, Boston Consulting Group, Mahindra, YES Bank, JP Morgan, Google joined the session to form an action forum what will ideate and implement an action plan for expanding social business, according to a press release of the Yunus Centre.

The action plan is aimed at facilitating social business initiatives by respective corporate houses what will usher the era of corporate social business in India as deemed by the participants.

The session was facilitated by Yunus Social Business, India. Participants were keen to use the experience of Yunus while expanding the social businesses in India.

He appreciated the willingness of the leading corporations of India to utilise their mandatory CSR budget to create social business in resolving social problems in a sustainable way. 

Pankaja Munde, minister of social welfare, poverty alleviation and women affairs, also participated in the conference.

The minister informed Yunus that she would come to Bangladesh to visit social businesses created by him.

When arrived in Mumbai, Yunus was welcomed by Deepak Vasant Kesarkar, Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra’s minister of state for Finance, Rural Development.

The minister also organised a meeting with high officials of the ministry to discuss various programmes of the ministry with the Nobel laureate. After the meeting the minister hosted a dinner in honour of him.

On 6-7 February, 2016, Yunus joined the annual ‘Development Dialogues’, hosted by the Despande Foundation in Hubbali, Karnataka, India. He was invited as a keynote speaker to address an audience of more than 5000 participants.
