Panchayat polls in West Bengal halt trade thru’ Benapole
Benapole: The export-import activities between Bangladesh and India through Benapole Port remained suspended on Monday following the Panchayat elections in West Bengal, India.
The trade was suspended at Indian Petrapole on the occasion of the government holiday in West Bengal for election, said Aminul Islam, director (traffic) of Benapole Port.
However, the internal activities of Benapole Port were normal, he said.
The export-import activities will resume on Tuesday morning, said Kartik Chatterjee, general secretary of Indian Petrapole Port C&F Agent Staff Welfare Association.
Several hundred trucks carrying goods remained stranded in the port areas of both countries.
