Conference on RMG on Thursday
Dhaka: A High-level conference on readymade garments (RMG) industry will be held on Thursday aiming to utilise the potentiality of Bangladesh.
The Embassy of Denmark and the Danish Minister for Trade and Development Cooperation is hosting the conference to mark the 2nd anniversary for the Rana Plaza collapse that killed at least 1,138 workers and injured several thousand.
More than 200 guests, representing the Danish and Bangladeshi governments, businesses, NGO’s as well as labour and business organisations are expected to take part in the conference, said a Danish Embassy press release.
In the conference key learnings of last two years’ multi-stakeholder cooperation in RMG sector will be shared. Besides, it will also focus on the future- on how these learnings can be utilised by other industries in Bangladesh and in other areas of CSR.
‘Bangladesh has come a long way since Rana Plaza. The country, the international community and the RMG sector have set new standards and introduced new forms of cooperation, which have not previously been seen anywhere in the world,’ said Danish Minister for Trade and Development Cooperation Mogens Jensen on the eve of the conference, according to the release.
‘There is still a way to go. But, Bangladesh is already Framing the Future’, he added.
Danish Minister for Trade and Development Cooperation Mogens Jensen will open the conference while Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali and State Minister for Labour and Employment Mohammad Mujibul Haque will be present as special guests.
