US investors show interest in Bangladesh
Dhaka: The major US investors have expressed their keen interest to invest in the potential sectors of Bangladesh.
They expressed their interest at a luncheon meeting with the Bangladesh Ambassador to US Mohammad Ziauddin in New York on Friday, according to a message received in Dhaka on Saturday.
The Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU), a prominent think-tank founded by US President Dwight Eisenhower in 1995, organised the meeting.
Representatives from Citigroup, MasterCard International, Ellicott Dredgers, Coca-Cola Co, Fontheim International, American Eagle, and Sikorsky Aircraft, among others, participated in the meeting.
Ambassador Ziauddin briefed them about Bangladesh's potential as a regional hub connecting South Asia and South East Asia due to its strategic location.
Noting that the present Bangladesh government put emphasis on regional connectivity, he informed the potential US investors that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited numbers of countries for bringing regional prosperity by strengthening regional connectivity.
The Bangladesh envoy also highlighted Bangladesh's strong economic indicators and drew attention to the thrust sectors for investments such as power, energy, shipbuilding, agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, ceramics, ICT and telecommunication.
He also sought their support for duty-free, quota-free access of Bangladesh's readymade garment products to the US market.
