BUILD, UNDP team up for green business promo
Dhaka: The BUILD and UNDP Bangladesh on Thursday signed a pact at UNDP office in the city to coordinate their approaches towards sustainable green growth and environment friendly business by facilitating public private dialogue (PPD).
UNDP Bangladesh Country Director Pauline Tamesis and BUILD Chairman Asif Ibrahim signed the agreement on behalf their respective organisations.
The two bodies will also establish institutional mechanisms and form a joint working committee that will meet at a regular interval to support green growth and identify regulatory issues hindering the sustainability of green growth.
They will cooperate on renewable energy and research into the effects of climate change on Bangladesh.
They also agreed to conduct advocacy for reform proposals through PSDPCC for environment-friendly business, addressing regulatory issues hindering the growth of SMEs as per project targets agreed upon by the two parties and research and validation of issues identified through dialogue process and prepare appropriate reform proposals.
Besides, they agreed to organise joint workshop, seminars as and when agreed under this umbrella MoU.
At the signing ceremony, Pauline Tamesis said it is a great beginning to start working with the private sector in respect of disaster risk reduction and environment management for ensuring responsible business.
The BUILD Chairman said this mutual understanding between BUILD and UNDP will strengthen efforts in policy reforms and advocacy in areas of green and sustainable business policy reforms and advocacy for green and sustainable business and industry in Bangladesh.
BUILD CEO Ferdaus Ara Begum, Deputy Country Director Nick Beresford and Khurshid Alam, Assistant Country Director, Seeta Giri, Project Manager, Tanzeba Ambereen Huq of UNDP Bangladesh were, among others, present at the signing ceremony.
