Tourism suffers setback in Kuakata
Barguna: The tourism sector of the country, especially in Kuakata, is passing critical times due to the recent hartal and blockade. As a result this buzzing sector is facing serious financial losses, reports BSS.
Kuakata was abuzz with the presence of numerous tourists, who came to visit during the recent Christmas, new-year celebrations and weekly holidays.
But in the last several days, the main tourist destination is experiencing an acute scarcity of tourists due to political violence.
Kuakata Hotel-Motel, Guest House Owners’ Association president Md Motaleb Sharif said there are one hundred hotels and motels in Kuakata.
70% of the hotels and motels remained vacant in the recent days. As a result, the owners of the hotels and motels are incurring huge losses.
He also said, their hotels are faced with the problems of scarcity of guests. The government-run hotels and motels under Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation are also incurring losses, he further said.
Tribal Rakhain Cooperative Markets authority said there was no movement of all kinds of transports to and from the town due to blockade. They have incurred losses of about Taka six lakh in the last several days.
