Rabada’s record six-for restricts Tigers to 160

Dhaka: South African pacer Kagiso Rabada’s world record of six wickets, including a hat-trick, on his ODI debut restricted hosts Bangladesh to 160 in the rain-hit first match of the three-match National Polymer ODI Cricket Series at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka on Friday.

The 20-year-old, Kagiso Rabada’s six wickets for 16 runs is the best figure in ODI on debut. His hat-trick is the 3rd ODI hat-trick for South Africa after Charl Langeveldt in 2005 and Jean Paul Duminy in 2015, which is overall 39th hat-trick in ODI format.

Kagiso Rabada dismissed Tamim, Liton Das and Mahmudullah in the 4th, 5th and 6th delivery of his second over to complete his hat-trick.

On his way to the six-wicket haul, K Rabada also captured Soumya Sarkar, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Jubaier Hossain for 16 runs in his 8 overs spell.

Earlier, winning the toss, Bangladesh elected to bat first and scored 160 runs for all in 36.3 overs, riding on the world number one all rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s highest score of 48 runs off 51 balls with five fours.

Bangladesh clean finisher Nasir Hossain made 31 runs off 44 balls with three fours and the lone six of the innings before he was bowled out by Chris Morris at the end.

Shakib also contributed 53 runs in 12.3 overs pairing with Bangladesh Test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim in the fifth wicket stand after the departure of Soumya Sarkar at 40 in 7.2 overs.

Soumya Sarkar was caught by Jean Paul Duminny off a Kagiso Rabada bowling scoring run-a-ball 27 with four fours.

Mushfiqur Rahim was caught by Imran Tahir off a JP Duminy delivery scoring 24 runs off 38 balls with a four leaving the team total at 93 in 19.5 overs.

Number seven Sabbir Rahman who came to pair with Shakib was out for 5 off 13 balls.

Shakib followed Sabbir as he was bowled out off an Imran Tahir delivery at 120 in 25.1 overs.

Skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (4 off 12 balls) and Jubaier Hossain (5 off 9 balls, 1X4) were captured by K Rabada.

Bangladesh faced an early jolt losing their three top order batsmen Tamim Iqbal, Liton Kumar Das and Mahmudullah for duck at 17.

Chris Morris grabbed two wickets for 32 runs while Jean Paul Daminy and Imran Tahir took one wicket each for 28 and 38 runs respectively.

The match was delayed by two hours and 40 minutes due to heavy rain.

The game which was reduced to 40-over-a-side began at 5:40pm.
