Dhaka: South Africa’s JP Duminy dismissed Mominul Haque and Imrul Kayes in back-to-back overs and halted Bangladesh’s progress.

Duminy dismissed Mominul Haque, who looked solid, for 40 and broke the 69-run stand between him and Imrul Kayes.

Bangladesh were 86/3.

Duminy in his next over trapped Kayes in front of the stumps who fell over trying to clip one through the on side. The trend continued for the hosts who are again throwing away starts.

Earlier, Mominul Haque and Imrul Kayes steadied Bangladesh after Steyn picked his 400th wicket by dismissing Tamim. Bangladesh were 75/1 at Lunch.

Bangladesh recovered from an early blow on the first day of the second and final Test against South Africa at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka on Thursday. While Mominul and Imrul were batting on 35 and 28 respectively, the highlight of the day was Dale Steyn’s 400th wicket, which occurred in the fifth over of the match when Tamim Iqbal edged the delivery, pitched wide outside off, to Hashim Amla at the slips to depart for 6.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat. There was a change in the playing eleven of either team, with Nasir Hossain replacing Taijul Islam in Bangladesh and Dane Vilas coming in for Quinton de Kock as the South African wicketkeeper.

The South African pace attack, led by Steyn, were firing on all guns in the first few overs of the day. Opening batsman Iqbal played a few impressive strokes early in his innings. He survived a dismissal chance when he edged a delivery to Dean Elgar in the slips off Steyn, who was too late in collecting the catch and ended up delaying the bowler’s much-awaited milestone. He could not make the most of that opportunity, as Bangladesh went on to lose their first wicket with just 12 runs on board.
