Banks will not be allowed to charge for job exams: BB governor
Dhaka: Banks have already been instructed not to collect any fee from job seekers on the pretext of examination expenditures, said Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman on Tuesday. If any bank was found flouting the rules, it would suffer punishment, he added.
He was addressing a discussion on preserving rights of clients of banks and financial sectors in Dhaka.
Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management and Consumers’ Association of Bangladesh organised the discussion.
Atiur Rahman said most of the job seekers usually come from poor families. Many are jobless as they have just completed higher education. They should not be charged more.
He also said that the central bank had formed a separate division, Financial Integrity and Customer Services Department (FICSD) to resolve problems of clients.
Former deputy governor of the bank, Khandaker Ibrahim Khaled, presented a paper at the discussion. He said client‑based consumer associations should be formed to combat corruption and financial anomalies.
Consumers’ Association of Bangladesh chairman Golam Rahman and former Sonali Bank managing director Mohammad Hossain, among others, were also present.
