3rd T20I: Bangladesh to face Windies in series decider Monday
USA: Bangladesh will play host West Indies in the series decider third T20I at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill in Florida of the USA on Monday.
The deciding battle will begin at 6 am [Bangladesh time] with both sides still having their chances of series victory, reports the UNB.
Bangladesh showed superb fight in the second clash for a see-sawing victory by 12 runs at the USA venue to level the series after a seven-wicket loss in the first T20I against the Windies at in St Kitts.
Bangladesh scored a quite fighting total of 171/5 and restricted the big-hitter aplenty Windies to 159/9.
Bangladesh managed their total depending on experienced opening batsman Tamim Iqbal [74 off 44b] and captain Shakib Al Hasan [60 off 38b] as they shared a 4th wicket stand of 90 from 8.2 overs.
Credit to the bowlers – Mustafizur Rahman (3/50), Nazmul Islam (3/28), talismanic all-rounder Shakib (2/19) and Rubel Hossain (1/35) – handling the bowling department.
Windies opener Andre Fletcher [43 off 38b] and number-6 batsman Rovman Powell [43 off 34b; 3x4; 2x6] carried the half-way of their chase, but Bangladesh bowlers denied their remaining four double digit scorers -- Andre Russell [17], Ashley Nurse [16], skipper Carlos Brathwaite [11] and Marlon Samuels [10] -- to reach to 20 runs marks.
Shakib credited their revival to ‘belief’ in the camp as he said, “After the loss in St Kitts, we had a very good chat. We agreed that we can still win against the Windies although they are a very good side. We need to play our best game and we had that belief. That is the mindset that changed the momentum.”
The momentum is now with Bangladesh. The Windies, despite being in with a chance till the end, made far too many mistakes in front of a sizeable crowd at Lauderhill, with the majority cheering for Bangladesh.
Carlos Brathwaite admitted far too many lapses in the field had cost the side, and said it was imperative they put in a more error-free performance in the final T20I.
“We were casual in the field and that is where the game turned. There were too many lapses in the field and Bangladesh came out trumps. I still have full confidence in bouncing back,” Windies captain said.
