David Warner will lead Sylhet Sixers in the sixth season of the Bangladesh Premier League, which is scheduled to begin on January 5.

Warner was one of Sylhet's two direct overseas picks along with Nepal's Sandeep Lamichhane, reports the espncricinfo.com.

Warner, who is currently serving a 12-month ban handed by Cricket Australia following the Newlands ball-tampering scandal, has kept himself busy playing in T20 leagues around the world. He was not allowed to play for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, but he returned to competitive cricket with stints in the Global T20 Cananda and the Caribbean Premier League.

He made just 109 runs in eight innings at a strike-rate of 114.73 for Winnipeg Hawks in the GLT20, and followed it up with 220 runs in nine innings at a strike-rate of 111.67 for St Lucia Stars in the CPL.

Warner will be joined in the league by Steven Smith, who had earlier signed up with Comilla Victorians. The duo's ban from top-flight cricket ends on March 29, 2019.
