Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan.

Dhaka: Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan on Sunday said his principal role in the upcoming World Cup will be to support the pace bowlers.
Mehidy, who got married recently, is currently busy playing the ongoing season of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League.
After coming back from New Zealand, Mehidy was out of action for a few days. However, he returned to the business on March 29 while playing for Abahani Limited in the Dhaka League.
‘Spinners will not get much help from the condition in Ireland or England. Keeping it in mind, I think my main role will be to check the runs and support the pace bowlers, and it will be important for me. I will need to bowl economically. I think conceding 5 runs can be considered good bowling in England for a spinner. At the same time, if I can take one or two wickets that will be a big advantage for us,’ Mehidy told the reporters on Sunday at the National Academy Ground in Mirpur, reports the UNB.
Mehidy kicked off his ODI career back in 2017 but failed to emerge as effective in Tests. He just snagged 26 wickets in 25 encounters with an economy rate of 4.40. The right-handed all-rounder played six matches in home and bagged 11 wickets in an average of 22.00. But in abroad, he played 19 matches and scalped 15 wickets in an average of 44.66.
Mehidy believes placing balls on the right areas can help him to do better in the wickets of England.
‘During the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, I was in the team and I played a match as well. The wickets of England are good to bat on. If I keep bowling in the right areas it will be helpful for me to get some wickets. I need to bowl with more accuracy in England. I will prepare myself keeping all these in mind,’ Mehidy further said.
Mehidy was known for his efficient batting ability during his days in age-level cricket. But he is yet to show his batting prowess in the international circuit. He hit only a fifty in his 16 ODI innings.
‘I think we have a good team, and in the tough times, 20 or 30 runs as also important. I will not get the chance to play big innings every day. So I am planning to contribute as much as possible. If I can add 20-30 or 40 as a tailender, it will help the team a lot,’ Mehidy said.
Most of the best bowlers of the opposition bowl at the death overs. So it is really tough to bat during that time. But, I am planning to face those situations as I have faced such a situation recently while playing in New Zealand. I got the idea where I should improve before heading to the World Cup,’ the all-rounder concluded.
