Shafiul to replace exiled Al Amin
Pace bowler Shafiul Islam will join the Bangladesh’s World Cup 2015 squad as a replacement for Al Amin Hossain, who has been sent back home on disciplinary ground.
The 25-year-old Shafiul has played 52 One Day Internationals in which he has scored 124 runs and taken 58 wickets. His last ODI in Bangladesh ensigns was against Zimbabwe in Dhaka in November 2014.
Bangladesh Cricket Board selection committee member Minhajul Abedin Nannu said, ‘The decision of sending Shafiul to Australia as a replacement of Al Amin has been taken in selector committee’s meeting. Shafiul is leaving for Australia on Monday.’
Bangladesh on Sunday threw out pace bowler Al-Amin Hossain from the World Cup for indiscipline and promised a full inquiry after the tournament was over.
A media release from the team management said Al-Amin had ‘breached team rules’, telling that he had stayed out late in Brisbane on the night of February 19 and, as a result, breached a team curfew.
‘Al Amin has been found to have breached team rules and will take no further part in the World Cup,’ the statement read. ‘Following consultation with the Bangladesh Cricket Board, the team management has decided to send the player home immediately.’
‘The Board will conduct its own inquiry into the breach after receiving the manager’s report at the end of the team’s World Cup campaign,’ the statement added.
Bangladesh team were in Brisbane for the match against Australia on Saturday. The match, however, was washed out.
Al-Amin, 25, has played six test matches and 11 one-day internationals since his debut in 2013.
He had been reported for a suspect action last September, but was cleared to play by the International Cricket Council after undergoing an independent test in India.
Bangladesh are in Pool A in the tournament along with co-hosts Australia and New Zealand, England, Sri Lanka and qualifiers Afghanistan and Scotland.
Bangladesh beat Afghanistan in their first match by 105 runs while their second match against Australia was washed out.
Bangladesh are due to take on Sri Lanka at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Thursday.
