Bangladesh secured the second successive victory in the seven-match Tri-nation series after crushing visiting Sri Lanka by 163 runs at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday.

The tigers restricted Sri Lanka on 157/10 in 32.2 overs after posting a strong figure of 320/7 in 50 overs for their largest margin victory by runs in ODI format.

Bangladesh’s previous largest margin victory was against West Indies by 160 runs in Khulna in December 2012.

In the day’s match, Thisara Perera (29 off 14b; 3x4; 2x6), skipper stand in captain Dinesh Chandimal (28 off 39b; 1x6), Upul Tharanga (25 off 35b; 3x4), Kusal Mendis (19 off 34b; 1x4), Asela Gunaratne (16 off 19b; 2x4), Niroshan Dickwella (16 off 22b) and Akila Dananjaya (14 off 17b; 3x4) were the double digit scorers for Sri Lanka, reports the UNB.  

Man of the match Shakib Al Hasan (3/47), Rubel Hossain (2/20), skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (2/30), Nasir Hossain (1/20) and Mustafizur Rahman (1/20) did not provide any chances to Lankans batters for a big score, handling the Bangladesh’s bowling department well.  

The Tigers’ innings witnessed huge cherish of crowds under the sunny stadium at Mirpur as their three top-order and star batsmen — opener Tamim Iqbal (84), all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan (67) and wicketkeeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim (62)  — hammered half centuries for the 6th highest ODI innings aggregate of the Tigers and the 3rd highest in Mirpur stadium for the same side.

On his way second successive half century with 84 runs in the series, Tamim played an innings of 102 balls, firing seven boundaries and two sixes, to maintain his leading place as the most half centurion of Bangladesh in ODI format. He hammered 40th fifty in his 176 matches, starting his ODI career in February 2007.

Besides his individual performance, Tamim shared a partnership of 71 off 14.5 overs in the opening stand with Anamul Haque and continued his innings in the 2nd wicket stand for another partnership of 99 runs off 14.3 overs with Shakib the 2nd most ODI half centurion of Bangladesh.

Shakib hammered seven boundaries off 63 balls in the innings on the day for his 36th half centuries from 182 matches, beginning his ODI career in August 2006.

Mushfiqur, who is securing the 3rd highest ODI half centurion for Bangladesh, hit his 28th fifty, playing an innings off 52 balls with four boundaries and one six.

Batting first after winning the toss, Bangladesh dashing opener Tamim and Anamul Haque started the inning with quite cautiously for their opening stand where Anamul played a fearless innings of 35 off 37 balls, including three boundaries and one six, before being caught behind by Niroshan Dickwella off pace all-rounder Thisara Perera to left the crease.

Anamul was a bit aggressive compare to his previous innings of 19 off 14 balls, including four boundaries, for an eight wicket victory against Zimbabwe in the tournament opener when the top order batsman returned for national side after around two and half yeas break.

Tamim continued with all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in the 2nd wicket stand, which ended on 170/2 in 29.1 overs as he was caught behind by Niroshan Dickwella off Akila Dananjaya. 

Mushfiqur came to crease and paired with Shakib in the 3rd wicket stand to carry the team total to 227/3 in 37.5 overs, sharing a partnership of 57 off 8.4 overs before Shakib was caught and bowled by Asela Gunaratne to see a frustrating end of his innings playing a silly short ball.

Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah Riyad shared a partnership of 50 off 7.4 overs in the 4th wicket stand, which ended on 277/4 in 45.1 overs as Mahmudullah (24 off 23b; 2x4; 1x6) was caught by Thisara Perera off Nuwan Pradeep.

Sabbir Rahman played his agile-nature innings with quick-firing not out 24* off 12 balls, including three boundaries and one six, to be another double figure scorer of Bangladesh.

Thisara Perera captured three wickets for 60 in 9 overs while Nuwan Pradeep got two for 66 in 10 overs. Akila Dananjaya and Asela Gunaratne took one wicket each for 38 and 40 runs in five and 10 overs respectively.

With the day’s results, Bangladesh maintained the top slot in the points table of the series recording all-win 10 points from two games as they earlier outplayed Zimbabwe by eight wickets in the series opener.

Sri Lanka lost their 1st game by 12 runs against Zimbabwe the side collected four points from two games with one win and one loss.  

Bangladesh enjoyed six victories against Sri Lanka and losses in 34 occasions wile two matches between the two sides had seen no results in their 42 ODI encounters.
