Bangladesh’s ODI cricket captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza smashed a record on Tuesday as his team maintained their perfect record in the ODI tri-series, defeating Zimbabwe by 91 runs in Dhaka in the penultimate group match of the competition to confirm their position at the top of the table.

It was Mortaza’s 30th ODI victory as captain, setting a new national record. Mashrafe has become the most ODI winning leader of Bangladesh after leading his side for a 91-run win against Zimbabwe in the 5th match of the Tri-nation series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.

The 34-year old cricketer, popularly known as Narail Express for his pace bowling, Mashrafe captained his side so far in 53 matches for 30th victory against 21 losses while remaining two matches had seen no results, reports the UNB.

Habibul Bashar was the previous most winning leader of the Tigers’, registering 29 wins against 40 losses in 69 matches.

In the day’s match, Mashrafe-led Tigers’ restricted Zimbabwe on 125/10 in 36.3 overs after posting 216/9 in 50 overs in their innings to go atop of the series table with all-win 15 points.

Under Mashrafe’s captaincy, Bangladesh reached the quarterfinal stage for the first time in the ICC World Cup 2015 in Australia.

Mashrafe captained Bangladesh ODI side to play in the semifinals stage of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, also for the first time in this world event.

Making his ODI debut in November 2001, Mashrafe so far played 185 ODIs for the national side and with ball captured 237 wickets conceding at average 31.10, including the day’s 2/29 in 6 overs.

However, Mashrafe, who is considered the first genuine fast bowler of the country, captained Bangladesh Test side in one match, 26 in T20Is. Under his captaincy, Bangladesh tasted one win in Test and 9 wins in T20I format.

On current form, the 34-year-old will be confident of adding two more wins to that tally before the week is out.
