Lankan batsmen set platform for lead

Sri Lanka were just nine runs behind the hosts Tigers’ in the 1st innings after third day’s play of the 1st Test in a two-match series at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Friday.
Sri Lanka resumed the innings with overnight score of 187/1 in 48th over and raised their tally to 504/3 * in 138th over at stumps, adding 317 off 90 overs for the cost of two wickets on the 3rd day, reports the UNB.
Roshen Silva (87* off 173 b; 5x4; 1x6) and skipper Dinesh Chandimal (37* off 90b; 1x4) were sharing the crease with the unbeaten 4th wicket stand of 89* off 33.3 overs when the bails were drawn for the day.
Roshen-Chandimal thrived after the dismissal of overnight batsman Kusal Mendis, who was caught by Mushfiqur Rahim off Taijul Islam on 415/3 in 104.3 overs and shared a partnership innings of 107 off 21.2 overs with Roshen Silva in the 3rd wicket, played an innings of 196 off 327 balls with 22 boundaries and two sixes.
Kusal Mendis also shared another partnership of 308*/2 in 80.2 overs in the overnight 2nd stand with overnight centurion Dhananjaya de Silva.
Bangladesh’s pace bowling sensation Mustafizur Rahman dismissed Sri Lanka’s terrifying batsman Dhananjaya de Silva on third day’s second session when Lankans were on 308*/2 in 82.5 overs.
Dhananjaya was caught behind by Liton Kumar Das, after hammering a century of 173 off 229 balls, including 21 boundaries and one six.
Before the lunch break of 3rd day, the 2nd pair between Dhananjaya and Mendis shared the whole count of Lankans innings of 295/1 in 79th over from nearly in three sessions, starting their partnership composure from the 2nd session of the 2nd day’s play.
Dhananjaya –Mendis resumed the 1st innings on the day with their partnership innings as well as the team total of 187/1* in 48 overs and sweated out the Tigers’ bowling department before Mustafiz found Dhananjaya.
Bangladesh posted 513/10 in 129.5 overs in the 1st innings, which ended in the second session on day 2, opening the innings with bat after winning the toss on Wednesday where Mominul Haque shared partnership of 236 off 56.1 overs in the 3rd wicket stand with former Test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim.
Mominul Haque (176), Mushfiqur Rahim (92), skipper Mahmudullah Riyad( 83*), Tamim Iqbal (52) and Imrul Kayes (40) were the notable scorers for the host side.
Suranga Lakmal and Rangana Herath captured three wickets each for 68 and 150 runs while Lakshan Sandakan found two for 92. Dilruwan Perera got one wicket conceding 112 runs.
