Dhaka: Setting a new SA Games record, Bangladesh swimmer Mahfuza Khatun Shila clinched her 2nd gold medal in the Women’s 50-metre Breast Stroke of the 12th South Asian Games at Dr Zakir Hussain Aquatic Complex in Guwahati, India on Monday.

Mahfuza took 34.88 seconds to set the fastest swimmer record breaking the previous record of 34.97 seconds set by Sri Lankan swimmer Mayumi Raheem in 2006 SA Games in Colombo.

With Mahfuza’s second one in swimming, Bangladesh have so far bagged three gold medals in the ongoing eight-nation South Asian meet.

On Sunday, Mahfuza clinched another gold medal in the Women’s 100-metre breast at the same venue.

Weightlifter Mabia Akhter Simanta clinched the first gold medal for Bangladesh in the women’s 63-kg weight category at the Bhogeshwari Phukanani Indoor Stadium in Dispur, Guwahati, also on Sunday.
