The South African legendary opening batsman and coach of the ICC World Cup champion Indian Cricket team Gary Kirsten appointed as the National Team Management Consultant of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

In his first assignment, Gary Kirsten will help the BCB to finalize a head coach for national cricket team either from three shortlist candidates of board or from any other available coaches elsewhere, reports the UNB.

Taking to UNB Monday afternoon, the Chief Executive Officer of BCB Nazimuddin Chowdhury Sujon said, ‘apart from selecting national cricket coach, Garry will also look after total team management, team assessment, team selection, audit, coaching and other related works and advice BCB with his observations and recommendations’.

‘Garry already discussed various issues with Bangladesh Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan during the IPL in India, and he also talked with Bangladeshi senior cricketers like Mashrafe, Tamim and Mushfiqur Rahim and other concerned officials’ He added.

‘We felt that it is best to consult with an expert before deciding on a coach. Garry will recommend what kinds of coach Bangladesh required, and will also give his assessment about players and the coaching staff enabling BCB to make their job easier’ Sujon further said.

Former South African captain Garry, who earlier started work for the BCB, arrived in the capital Sunday night as his team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) eliminated the from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) before playoff where. Kirsten was the batting coach.

But it is confirmed that Courtney Walsh will continue as the interim head coach for the three T20s against Afghanistan.

Bangladesh have been without a permanent head coach since Chandika Hathurusingha’s departure in November last year. They have already been refused by Andy Flower, Tom Moody, Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Geoff Marsh and Paul Farbrace, and they have interviewed Richard Pybus and Phil Simmons who have already been employed by West Indies and Afghanistan, respectively.
