Shovon clinches 2nd silver for Bangladesh
Guwahati: Promising shooter Shovan Chowdhury clinched the 2nd silver medal for Bangladesh in the 12th South Asian Games Shooting securing the 2nd slot in the Men's 10 meter air rifles with total score 203.6 at the Khailipara Shooting Range on Friday.
Earlier in the morning, Shovon (617) shared the team event's silver with Abdullah Hel Baki (621.5) and and Anjan Kumar Singha (607) scoring total 1845.8.
Shovon dominated over their world class Indian rivals till the 2nd last round, but was thrown out of the gold race due to two bad shots in the two last rounds.
On the way to the event's individual silver, Shovon scored 10.0, 9.8, 10.7, 10.8, 10.2, 10.3, 10.3, 9.6, 9.8 10.5, 10.5, 9.6, 10.5, 10.6, 9.9, 10.5, 9.0, 10.6. 9.8 and 10.5.
Chain Singh of India won the gold in the individual event's scoring total 204.6 while Indian famed Olympian shooter Gagan Narang took the event's bronze scoring 182.0.
Soon after winning the silver, Shovon, a Merchandising graduate from Sirjangong district, said, ‘I’m happy to win the silver beating Olympian shooter, but my target was a gold medal.’
‘Shooting Federation and the Danish coach helped me a lot for the feat, I went down in the race due to lack of experience and nervousness,’ he added.
A 23 -year old Shovon, who won a bronze medal in the Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010, is now eying the 2020 Olympics. Shovon started his shooting career in BKSP in 2004 and this was his best performance in the international arena.
Earlier on Wednesday, Shakil Ahmed won the first shooting gold for Bangladesh on the ongoing games in the men's 50-meter pistol at the same venue.
