Argentina stars were put through their paces on Wednesday as they trained at their Bronnitsy base ahead of their World Cup opener this Saturday.

Jorge Sampaoli's men have been in Russia since last week and have been working hard on the training pitch as they prepare to kick-off their World Cup campaign.

The Argentina stars started off the session working on fitness and stretching exercises before moving on to ball-related ones, reports the Daily Mail.

There seemed to be an added focus on shooting with both Nahuel Guzman and Willy Caballero going in goal for shooting and volleying drills.

Sergio Aguero was snapped performing an acrobatic scissor kick during the session while his attacking partner Gonzalo Higuain showed Sampaoli what his capable of, by scoring a well-placed volley.

After the session the players enjoyed a joke as they took a golf buggy back to their changing rooms at their training base.

Lionel Messi and Aguero were pictured laughing together as they shared a ride back in the cart with one of Argentina's coaching members.

Messi and Co are gearing up for their first match of this summer's tournament.

Argentina face Iceland this Saturday in Group D, before meeting Croatia the following Thursday and Nigeria on June 26.
