Dhaka: The disciplinary committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has recommended a six-month ban for Sabbir Rahman from international cricket for abusing a fan on social media.

The disciplinary committee recommendation will need BCB president Nazmul Hassan’s approval, a formality to execute the ban.

BCB director Ismail Haider Mallick on Saturday said, ‘We have recommended to the board president that Sabbir Rahman should be suspended from international cricket for six months.’

If his ban would officiate on September 2, he would remain out from international campaign till the end of February 2019.

The 26-year old cricketer was accused of women-related scandal, including taking a woman in team-hotel room without authority’s permission during the 5th Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), whole night chatting with women, quarreling with team mates, using indecent words with fans on Facebook and beating fans.

‘He [Sabbir] apologized that he would never do such a thing again. He also admitted to a lot of things…If there’s a repetition of such incident, he will serve longer suspensions,’ Mallick added.

Bangladesh top-order batsman Sabbir, earlier, suffered a ban for six-month from domestic cricket and was stripped off his BCB’s central contract for physically assaulting a fan during a match of the 19th National Cricket League in 2017.

He was fined Tk 20 lakh as he was found guilty in January 2018 for breaching the BCB’s code of conduct level-4 to face ban on domestic cricket.

Mosaddek Hossain, who was sued by his divorced wife recently, had been issued with a warning by the disciplinary committee. Any action against him was deferred till the court gives its judgment as Mallick informed.
