Dhaka: The ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy arrived here on Wednesday morning on a four-day visit to Bangladesh as part of its journey around the globe.

Carrying the trophy, a flight of Emirates Airways landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:40 am.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, ICC’s showpiece 50-over event, will be held in England and Wales from May 30 to July 14 in 2019, reports the UNB.

The cricket fans in Dhaka, Sylhet and Chattogram will get the opportunity to see the 64cm trophy weighing 10.80 kgs in their respective cities under a Unicef Bangladesh programme before it leaves Bangladesh on October 21.

After the unveiling at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the morning, there will be a photo session with the underprivileged children at 10:30 am and another photo session with Bangladesh National Cricket team at 12 noon.

On the 2nd day on Thursday, the trophy will be displayed for the cricket fans at Centre Court of Jamuna Future Park in the city from 11 am to 9 pm.

The trophy will travel to Sylhet on Friday (October 19) on a daylong tour to make photo session with unprivileged children at International Cricket Stadium at 10:30 am while it will be displayed for fans from 11 am to 4 pm on the same venue before visiting Sylhet Cadet College at 4:30 pm.

Finally, the trophy will make a daylong tour to Chattogram on Saturday (October 20) to hold a photo session with the unprivileged children at 10:30 am and it will be displayed for the fans from 11 am to 6 pm on the day, both at the MA Aziz Stadium.

The trophy began its journey from the International Cricket Council headquarters in Dubai on August 27 last and is travelling across five continents, 21 countries and over 60 cities. It is the most extensive Trophy Tour ever and will allow cricket fans around the world to catch a glimpse of the coveted prize.

The trophy will travel not only to the participating countries, but for the first time will go beyond the traditional cricketing nations and connect with fans in 11 other countries where cricket is gaining popularity.

Bangladesh is the trophy’s sixth stopover, after having already visited Oman, the USA, the West Indies, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. After Bangladesh, the trophy will tour Nepal, India, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Kenya, Rwanda, Nigeria, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany before reaching England and Wales on 19 February, 2019.
