Tiger batters toiling to fight back
Dhaka: Bangladesh have played 36 overs in the first innings on day-one to collect 100 for 3 against visiting Zimbabwe in the second and final match of the Test series at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Mominul Haque got his fifty [50* off 92b] while Mushfiqur Rahim [37* off 75b] after the lunch break.
Opening the first innings with the bat with three changes, including two debuts, in their best eleven Bangladesh went through their longstanding crises of quick top-order collapse.
Opener Imrul Kayes faced 16 balls and was out with duck in 6.4 overs, leaving team collection on 13 runs, and just within a span of three runs Liton Kumar Das [9] was packed on single digit in 8.5 overs.
Mohammad Mithun could prove his worth on his debut, paring with Mominul in the next, but was left the ground with another duck for the home side on 26/3 in 11.1 overs, before Mominul-Mushfiq added 30 off 24.5 overs to cross the fifty-run marks.
For the second Test, Bangladesh brought three changes in their best eleven with pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman coming in alongside handing debuts to Mohammad Mithun and Khaled Ahmed. They replaced Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Nazmul Islam and Abu Jayed.
Mithun, 27, became the most experienced first-class cricketer from Bangladesh to make his Test debut, having already played 88 games. Khaled is a pace bowler from Sylhet and has played 20 first-class matches.
Zimbabwe included Donald Tiripano to replace Wellington Masakadza making a three-man seam attack as they keen to break the 17-year drought of away series victory, having a 1-0 lead in the series with a 151-run win in the first Test in Sylhet.
