Mushfiqur Rahim first Tiger to score two Test double-centuries
Dhaka: Wicketkeeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim now holds the record for becoming the first Bangladesh batsman to score two Test double centuries.
He struck his first double century during the 2013 Test tour of Sri Lanka and today (Monday) he got his second double ton after continuing on from 111 not out yesterday (Sunday).
The right-handed batsman also became the first wicket-keeper-batsman to score two double centuries in Tests, an incredible accomplishment that some of the best wicket-keeper-batsmen have not achieved.
His innings is also the highest knock played by a Bangladesh batsman at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
He went past Mominul Haque’s 161 after lunch today to make the record his. It was a life-saving knock from one of Bangladesh’s most dependable batsman as he revived the Tigers after it looked like another batting collapse was imminent when they lost three top-order batsmen within 12 overs yesterday.
He controlled the flow of the game with his usual composure, building partnerships along the way. The double ton, reached in 407 deliveries was laced with 16 fours and one six.
At the end, tiger skipper Mahmudulla has declared the fight innings when Bangladesh scored 522 losing seven wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim left the ground scoring unbeaten 219 while Mehidy Hasan 68 runs.
