Dhaka: A diminutive Mushfiqur Rahim struck career-best unbeaten 219 in his side’s first innings total of 522/7-declared on the second day of the second and final Test against visiting Zimbabwe at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium here on Monday.

At stumps, the visitors were 25 for one in their first innings losing opener Hamilton Masakadza (14) off Taijul Islam. They need another 297 runs to avoid a follow-on, reports the UNB.

Mushfiq played till the end of the 160th over, facing 421 balls and hitting 18 boundaries and one six, alongside sharing in three vital partnerships.

The former national skipper now holds the record for being the only wicketkeeper-batsman to score two Test double centuries. He is also the only Bangladesh Test cricketer who has scored double centuries twice.

Bangladesh resumed the innings with overnight score of 303/5 in 90 overs and played 70 overs more before declaring the innings in the third session.

Hasan Miraz was another hero of the day scoring his second Test half-century. He remained unbeaten 68 off 102 balls, including five boundaries and one six, to prove his all-rounder tagging.

Mushfiq partnered with Miraz for unbeaten 144 off 32.5 overs in the eighth stand and a 73 off 32.3 overs in the sixth stand with skipper-cum-overnight batsman Mahmudullah Riyad[36 off 110 b; 3x4] .

Mushfiq took a single to reach the 200-run mark off Sikandar Raza, pulling a short ball off to square leg. He struck 16 boundaries and one six to amass the score off 406 balls.

Kyle Jarvis captured five wickets for 71 runs while Tendai Chatara and Donald Tiripano took one wicket each for 34 and 65 runs respectively for the visiting side in the innings.
