Chattogram: Bangladesh’s opening batsman Soumya Sarkar was out with duck in the third ball of the first innings of the first Test against visiting West Indies at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in the port city on Thursday.

Imrul Kayes [22* off 51b] and Mominul Haque [43* off 51b] were at the crease on Bangladesh’s 71/1 in 17 overs.

Soumya, who returned for Test after around a year break after playing last in October 2017, played just two balls before being caught behind by Shane Dowrich off Kemar Roach with a collection of one run on the score board.

Earlier, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and elected to bat first with three changes in their eleven that played against Zimbabwe in the second Test in Dhaka early this month.

Uncapped Nayeem Hasan got a spot alongside Shakib and Soumya’s return, replacing Liton Kumar Das and Khaled Ahmed and Ariful Haque respectively.

Bangladesh: Imrul Kayes, Soumya Sarkar, Mominul Haque, Mahmudullah Riyad, Shakib Al Hasan(captain), Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Nayeem Hasan.

West Indies: Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Kieran Powell, Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, Roston Chase, Sunil Ambris, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Jomel Warrican, Kemar Roach and Devendra Bishoo.
