Dhaka: Bangladesh stalwart Tamim Iqbal on Wednesday said that mental preparation is the key to win matches in a big event like the World Cup.

He said instead of debating on the selected squad, supporters should back them to be more confident ahead of the biggest cricketing event, reports the UNB.

Tamim played the World Cup for the first time in 2007. In that event, he struck a match-winning fifty against India, which helped him earn star-status.

‘World Cup is the biggest chance for young cricketers who’ve been included in the squad. Events like the World Cup gives birth to stars, ‘he told reporters at a hotel in the capital while attending a ceremony of one of the World Cup sponsors - MoneyGram International Inc.

‘I think we’ll see many talented cricketers in the World Cup, ‘he said.

Bangladesh selectors announced the squad on Tuesday. Seven new members have never played in the World Cup. Tamim believes they got the ideal chance to prove their talent but reiterated that mental preparation is most important thing.

‘If you practice for 50 days and not prepared mentally, then it won’t help you, ‘he said.

‘We’re lucky because we’re going to England some days ahead of the World Cup which will help us a lot. At the same time, we’ll play a tri-series in Ireland. I think it’ll help me to prepare mentally and physically, ‘he told the media.
