Skipper Michael Clarke has made his last one-day international memorable sealing the ICC World Cup 2015 title for Australia for the fifth time. A sparkling innings came from his bat.

Though pacer James Faulkner received Man of the Match award, to me, Clarke is the player of the final.

Outstanding performance with the bat and superb captaincy — I shall call it Clarke’s all-round performance that brought an easy victory for Australia.

I presumed that Australia will crown the title. But I did not think that the match would be one-sided. It was not an exhilarating final at all. But Australia net the trophy as a talented team. They have proved they are the best in cricket.

New Zealand, finalist for the first time, had the chance to make history. I thought Kiwis would set a handsome total batting first in the batting-favoured wicket. But I have been astounded at their batting.

I did not expect such poor performance from Kiwis. Probably they were under pressure playing in the World Cup final for the first time. They could not overcome the pressure which resulted in huge defeat.

New Zealand was under pressure after losing Brandon McCullum in the first over. Grant Elliott and Ross Taylor made a brilliant partnership in the middle but the remaining batsmen could not face Australian pacers.

Actually, a handsome total depends on some good partnerships. Kiwi batsmen failed to come with that. Australian pacers bowled really well today.

Minhajul Abedin Nannu: Selector of Bangladesh Cricket Board and former captain of Bangladesh cricket team. He is the first Man of the Match of Bangladesh in World Cup.
