Mustafiz undergoes successful operation
Bowling sensation Mustafizur Rahman underwent a successful surgery for shoulder wounds at a hospital in London, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said in a statement on Friday.
‘Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman underwent a surgery on his left shoulder on Thursday at the BUPA Cromwell Hospital in London. The operation was performed by renowned shoulder surgeon Dr Andrew Wallace,’ said the BCB statement issued from the British capital.
It said BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon was present at the hospital until the end of the surgery along with BCB’s senior physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury, who said the surgery began at about 4:00pm British time (10pm BST) and it took nearly an hour to complete the procedure.
Prior to the surgery last night, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina phoned the celebrated pace bowler and wished his successful operation and early recovery, premier’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told BSS.
He said the cutter master was delighted after receiving the call while he also expressed his gratitude to Sheikh Hasina.
The press secretary said the Prime Minister told Mustafiz that she already asked the BCB president to look after his treatment.
The BCB statement said type 2 SLAP tear of his left shoulder was repaired through the surgery while he was expected to be released from the hospital by later today (Friday).
‘We would get a clearer idea about his follow up and rehab over the next couple of days,’ the BCB statement read.
The 20-year-old cricketer, who went to Sussex on July 20 to participate in the Natwest T20 Blast and Royal London One-Day Cup, suffered a recurrence of the shoulder injury he first sustained during the National Cricket League in October 2015.
