High-flying Bangladesh for the first time whitewashed former world champions Pakistan 3-0 in professional fashion in the three-match one-day internationals series beating them by eight wickets in the third and last match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka on Wednesday.

The Tigers, which sealed the first-ever historic ODI series against Pakistan (2-0) with one match to spare on Monday and laid the foundation to clinch their 4th ODI series victory against Test playing nations after Zimbabwe, New Zealand and West Indies. 

Needing just 251 runs to compete the whitewash, Bangladesh made a good start scoring 146 runs in 25.3 overs in the opening stand by Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarker and that finally fulfilled their long charished dream scoring the match-winner 251 runs for the loss of two wickets in 39.3 overs at the coffin of new captain Azhar Ali’s Pakistan.  

Tamim Iqbal, who emerged as the most consistent performer of the ODI series against Pakistan hitting back to back centuries with 132 and 116 runs, also contributed 76-ball 64 runs on Wednesday, featuring eight fours and one six, before he was trapped leg before wicket by Junaid Khan.

Later, Tamim was adjudged the player of the series to receive a cash award of US dollar 2000.  

One down Mahmudullah, the back to back centurions for Bangladesh in the recent ICC Cricket World Cup, dismissed cheaply for 10-ball 4 runs as he was bowled by Junaid Khan, leaving Bangladesh at 154 for 2 in 27.5 overs.

In the 3rd wicket stand, opener Soumya Sarker pairing of Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim guided the team toward dream victory contributing 97 runs.  

Soumya Sarker scored an unconqured 127 runs off 110 balls featuring 13 fours and six sixes while Mushfiqur Rahim scored an unbeaten 43-ball 49 runs, including six boundaries.

Bangladeshi promising opening batsman Soumya Sarker competed his maiden ODI century hitting a huge six over the deep mid wicket off a Pakistani captain Azhar Ali delivery. He furnished first ever ton (101) playing 94 balls including eleven fours and four sixes.

Later, Soumya Sarker named as man of the match to receive a prize money of 1000 US dollars.  

Left arm pacer Junaid Khan grabbed both the Bangladesh wickets conceding 67 runs.

Earlier, favoured by coin, Pakistan made a good start riding on maiden ODI century by new captain Azhar Ali, but eight wickets collapse within 47 runs in the lower order forced them to all out for 250 runs in 49 overs.

Azhar is the first Pakistan captain since Afridi in Asia Cup 2010 to make an ODI ton against Bangladesh.

On his way to first ODI century of 101 runs that came off 112 balls with 10 boundaries, Azhar pairing with number four Haris Sohail contributed 98 runs in the 3rd wicket stand in 17.2 overs to carry the team total to 203 for 3 in 38.4 overs from 105 for 2 in 21.2 overs.  

Bangladesh vice captain and world famed all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has broken down the dreadful fraternity bowling out Azhar Ali at 203 runs 3 in 38.4 overs that finally destroyed their batting line-up.  

Then skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza grabbed the wicket of Haris Sohail, was caught by Tigers Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim leaving Pakistan in trouble with scoreboard showing 207 for 4 in 39.2 overs.

Haris Sohail hit 52 off 58 ball with one four and two sixes.  

Earlier, Bangladeshi all rounder Nasir Hossain made the breakthrough in the Pakistan innings dismissing opening batsman Sami Aslam, was caught by wicket keeper Mushfiqur Rahim, before Pakistani opening pair Azhar Ali and Sami Aslam scored 91 runs in 18 overs.

Sami Aslam scored 45 off 50 balls with seven fours. Mohammad Hafeez (4 off 15b) came to stay with Azhar Ali, but Bangladesh spinner Arafat Sunny cut the short innings of Mohammad Hafeez (4 off 15 balls) as he bowled out him at 105/2 in 21.2 overs.

Saad Nasim (22 off 24b, 3X4) was the other double digit scorer for the visitors.

In the first batting power play, Pakistan scored 58 for no loss while Sami Aslam and Azhar Ali potted 27 and 29 runs respectively.

Pakistan reached the 100-mark by a single run by Azhar Ali off Shakib Al Hasan delivery in 20.1 overs and Azhar completed his second fifty in the series.

Umar Gul fell victim to run-out by Shakib-Sunny combination when Pakistan struggling at 244 for 8 in 46.4 overs.

Shakib Al Hasan, Arafat Sunny, Rubel Hossain and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza grabbed two wickets each for 34, 43, 43 and 44 runs respectively while Nasir Hossain took one wicket for 37 runs 7 overs.  

Bangladesh earned a comfortable 79-run win against Pakistan in the first match and defeated them by 7 wickets in their second match to clinch first ever ODI series against Pakistan.

The two teams will play a Twenty20 international on Friday before starting a two-Test series from 28 April.
