Dhaka: Bangladesh finished runners-up in the Beximco 4th Boys’ Under-18 Asia Cup Hockey’2016 losing to India by 5-4 goals in the final at Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium (MBNHS) on Friday.  

Shivam Anand’s late field goal for visiting India, just three second ahead the finished-line of stipulated time, broke the 4-4 tie in the keenly contested match to seal the title.  

Bangladesh started the 2nd half with a 2-1 lead, but India resurged to draw the winning line by 5-4 goals.  

Shivam Anaand and Kunwardilraj Singh scored two goals each for India while Hardik Singh added one.  

Roman Sarker, Mohammad Mohsin, Ashraful Islam and Mahabub Hossain scored one goal each for Bangladesh.

Despite the loss, Bangladesh achieved two awards in the tournament as their captain Roman Sarker was adjudged player of the tournament while Ashraful Islam became the highest scorer with 11 goals.  

In the day’s match, Bangladesh captain Roman Sarker put the hosts ahead in the 21st minute with a rebounded shot after an effort of Indian defender to clear the ball off a penalty corner pushed by Fazla Hossain Rabby was stopped by Naim Uddin, 1-0.  

Shivam Anaand restored the parity for India in the 22nd minute by a field goal with a brilliant reverse hit, 1-1.  

Bangladesh took the lead again in the 35th minute with Mohammad Mohsin scoring a field goal off a Sobuj Rahman's pass, 2-1.  

Hardik Singh, who was adjudged man of the final, scored the eqaliser for India by a penalty corner goal in the 44th minute that was stopped by Kunwardilraj Singh and flicked by Sunny Malik, 2-2.  

India took the lead in the 50th minute with Konjengbam Singh scoring a field goal, 3-2.

Bangladesh’s penalty corner specialist Ashraful Islam leveled margin in the 59th minute utilising a penalty corner opportunity, 3-3.  

Konjengbam Singh helped India again take the lead in the 61st minute by field goal, 4-3

Bangladesh came back in the game in the 63rd minute by Mahabub Hossain’s field goal with an aesthetic rebounded shot, 4-4.  

Shivam Anand drew the luck for India by his 2nd field goal in just three seconds ahead of the final whistle, 5-4.  

Bangladesh reached the final of the seven-nation meet with all-win record eliminating Chinese Taipei by 6-1 goals in the first semifinal while India booked another seat eliminating Pakistan by 3-1 goals in the 2nd semis, both held at MBNHS on Thursday.

In the group stage, Bangladesh made the biggest upset beating India by 5-4 goals in their opening Pool-A match and crushed Oman by 10-0 goals in the 2nd match. India crushed Oman by 11-0 goals.
