Bangladesh thrash Chinese Taipei
Dhaka: Bangladesh National Hockey team registered their 2nd consecutive victory in the eight-nation 5th Men’s Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Cup Tournament beating Chinese Taipei by 4-2 goals in a Group A match at the King’s Park Hockey ground in Hong Kong on Monday.
Two times champions Bangladesh, which made a good start in the ongoing Asian Hockey meet beating hosts Hong Kong by 4-2 goals on Saturday, dominated the first half by 3-0 goals in the day’s match.
This was the first defeat of Chinese Taipei in their 2nd group engagement after beating Macau by 2-0 goals in their first match on Saturday.
In the day’s match, Roman Sarker put Bangladesh ahead in the 17th minute by a field goal (1-0) while Ashraful Islam doubled the margin adding one more goal in the 24th minute from a penalty corner (2-0).
Captain Rasel Mahmud Jimmy scored a field goal in the 29th minute to increase the Bangladesh margin (3-0).
Lu Sung-Ting of Chinese Taipei reduced the margin scoring a field goal in the 41st minute (3-1) while Tseng Hsien-Yi made the most exciting 2nd goal for Taipei from a penalty stroke (3-2).
Finally, penalty corner expert Mamunur Rahman Chayan sealed the fate of the match contributing the 4th goal for the defending champions by his favorite penalty corner (4-2).
Bangladesh, which keep bird eyes on the 3rd successive crown, will play Macau in their last group engagement on Wednesday (November 23) at the same time and same venue.
Earlier in the Group B matches on Sunday, Singapore beat Thailand by 2-1 goals while Sri Lankan outplayed Uzbekistan by 7-2 goals at the same venue.
Earlier, Bangladesh were placed in Group-A with Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong and Macau while Group-B team consists of Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Uzbekistan.
