Tamim's fifty propels Chittagong to beat Khulna

Dhaka: Chittagong Vikings skipper-cum-opener Tamim Iqbal hammered unbeaten 66 to guide his side to their 6th victory in 4th Bangladesh Premier League beating Khulna Titans by five wickets in their 10th league tussle at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.

With this win, Chittagong moved one step up from the 3rd by virtue of more run rate pushing down Khulna into the 3rd slot in the points table.

Chittagong collected 12 points from 10 outings having six wins and four losses while Khulna also earned 12 points from the same number of matches, having the equal win-loss record. 

Chasing a target of 132, Chittagong drew the winning line scoring 135 for 5 in 18.4 overs with Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi's two successive boundaries off Mosharraf Hossain. 

Mohammad Nabi quick-fired unbeaten 17 off 8 balls, including two boundaries and one six.

Man of the match, Tamim displayed his dashing style till the end facing 59 balls to fire eight boundaries and one six.

Number-6 batsman Jahurul Islam scored 22 off 18 balls, including two boundaries and one six, before being caught by skipper Mahmudullah off Kevon Cooper bowling at 101/5 in 16 overs. 

West Indian giant-hitter Chris Gayle dismally departed from opening stand at 39/1 in 4.1 overs. Gayle stayed for 19 runs before being caught by Junaid Khan off Shuvagata Hom bowling. 

Shuvagata Hom, Kevon Cooper and Mosharraf Hossain took one wicket each for 7, 18 and 25 runs in 1, 4 and 3.4 overs respectively.

Batting first after winning the toss, Khulna collected 131 for 8 in 20 overs spurred by the skipper Mahmudullah Riyad's knocked of 42 off 39 balls that witnessed four boundaries and one over boundary.

Opener Riki Wessels scored 20 runs while Ariful Haque and Nicholas Pooran added 18 runs each. Kevon Cooper was another double figure scorer with 15 runs. 

Delivering four overs each, Imran Khan and Taskin Ahmed took two wickets each for 16 and 28 runs.

Saqlain Sajib, Mohammad Nabi and Subashis Roy took one wicket each for 23, 26 and 32 runs respectively.
