Zimbabwe abandons planned tour to Pakistan

Harare: The Zimbabwe cricket team on Thursday suspended its anticipated tour of Pakistan on the advice of its sports regulatory body just days before it was scheduled to arrive in Pakistan to play three one-day and two T20 matches.

Zimbabwe cricket authorities abandoned the planned tour, citing poor security after recent militant violence that has revived fears after a deadly attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in 2009.

‘The decision not to tour at this time has been taken after considering the advice from the country's supreme sports regulatory authority, the Sports and Recreational Commission (SRC),’ Zimbabwe Cricket said in a statement.

Earlier on 30 April, Zimbabwe Cricket chairman Wilson Manase announced to tour Pakistan since the 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore.

Manase also confirmed that the series, scheduled for May, would be confined to Lahore and would include three ODIs and two T20s.
